Project: Absa CIB (Payments)

June 2024 - Current

The goal of this project is to improve the overall experience for making and managing corporate payments. One of the primary objectives is to streamline the initiation of different payment journeys (transfers, local, international etc) as the current process is quite disjointed and fragmented.

 

Responsibilities:

Project: Absa CIB (Treasury)

January 2022 - May 2024

The goal of this project was to migrate our channels/services from our legacy platform which is being decommissioned, to the new strategic platform.

In doing so, we conducted an Experience audit which allowed us to understand our clients, our current system and the new platform so that we can ensure that we are meeting our client's need when we migrate our services.

Project: Absa (Personal Loans Onboarding)

The goal was to create a simplified, omni-channel application for the personal loans product.

This would allow multi-device availability (for app, web, branch and call centre) and to be able to transition between these platforms mid-application.

After working 3 years as a UX Designer in the Financial Industry, I moved to Zulzi for an opportunity to work in-house and in the e-commerce space. Zulzi is a grocery delivery platform within the South African market.

My focus was primarily on their customer facing app, although they also have platforms for their shoppers, drivers and merchants.

Freethinking Business Consultants

UX Designer

August 2017 - July 2020

My first time working as a UX Designer was for Freethinking. They’re a consultancy based in Johannesburg but contracting across South Africa in the financial service industry. During my time with Freethinking I’ve worked on 4 projects based at 3 different clients, namely Nedbank, Absa and Standard Bank. The details of the projects are mentioned below.

Project: Nedbank (Greenbacks Loyalty & Rewards)

June 2019 - July 2020

Via Freethinking Business Consultants

I worked on the Nedbank Greenbacks project as they were moving from a traditional loyalty & rewards programme to a behavioural money management programme. The goal is to help guide customers to make better choices that lead to financial betterment.

My involvement is for fixes and improvements on the mobile app and to build the web portal from the ground up.

Project: Nedbank (Juristic Onboarding)

July 2018 – May 2019

Via Freethinking Business Consultants

My first project at Nedbank was for Juristic Onboarding. We built online applications for financial products like a current account, overdraft or investment product. This was only for Business Banking and Corporate Investment clients as well as the staff servicing those products. The goal for these applications is to be self-servicing.  

We developed these applications for desktop.

Project: Absa (Bank cards & packaging)

April 2018 – June 2018

Via Freethinking Business Consultants

I briefly joined a small design team at Absa to redesign their Wealth and Private bank cards as a result of the Absa rebranding. The redesign also included the stationary and packaging for the cards and the brand launch. This project ran very rapidly across research, design and testing.

Project: Standard Bank
(Home, life and vehicle Insurance)

August 2017- March 2018

My first role as a UX designer was for the insurance department at Standard Bank.

I was involved in the home insurance, life insurance and vehicle insurance projects. Each of the insurance squads had different objectives, but they were mostly in the discovery and research phases.

This opportunity was my first time working as a consultant, in the financial industry and also in the Agile method.

I grew in my time at Action Gear due to the nature of the work and the size of the team.

I was familiar with e-commerce but it was my first time working for a company that specialises in selling outdoor gear such as GoPro cameras and drones.

I had also moved from a small team to being a sole designer.
